A professor at Duke University where he teaches American art, the arts of the African Diaspora and contemporary visual studies, Dr. Powell has curated exhibitions appearing in museums across the world. Not only has he published titles covering a range of primitivism to postmodernism, he’s also authored 14 books on his art history and cultural studies. Dr. Powell has been the recipient of multiple fellowships and grants, as well as the Lawrence A. Fleischman Award for Scholarly Excellence in the Field of American Art History.
