Rachel Brown brings nearly a decade of Higher Education Administration experience specifically focused in the Visual Arts, to her position as Associate Director, Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective. Committed to shaping the next generation of African-American art world professionals, she joined the AUC Collective in August 2019.
Prior to Spelman, she was Program Manager, MA Art Business & Summer Institute at Sotheby’s Institute of Art- New York (SIA), a graduate school for Art and its Markets. As Program Manager, she provided administrative and operational oversight of the largest of the three Master’s Degree programs, in addition to the Summer Institute’s annual short-term courses for students from around the world. Before joining SIA, she worked at the School at the International Center of Photography where she began as an Education Assistant in Continuing Education and rose to the Full-Time Programs Assistant for the General Studies in Photography, Documentary Photography & Photojournalism Certificate programs and the ICP-BARD MFA Program. She has held additional administrative positions at the Magnum Foundation and in the Department of Art and Art Professions at New York University. To compliment her positions in Higher Education, she worked for over six years in the Visitor Experience Department at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York. A fluent French speaker, Rachel has traveled extensively and served as an English Teaching Assistant for the Académie de Lyon in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France.
Rachel holds an MA in Visual Arts Administration from New York University and a BA in French with a minor in Studio Art from Spelman College.
